Giant Monsters and Magical Girls
Where would an Anime-themed RPG be without Neko? The word is japanese for “cat”. With that said, its meaning has come to refer not only to cats in anime, but any humanoid drawn with catlike features, or any kind of animal feature for that matter. An english term often applied to this is “anthropomorphism”
These features vary greatly in placement and magnitude, but typical features include having feline ears on the character’s head, and/or a corresponding tail, but clawed limbs, eyes, and even noses and more, are not unheard of in Japanese media.
However to facilitate players and avoid complications, ‘Neko’ will not refer to any given race or ethnic group. There will be ‘beastman’ races resembling different anthro-species in the world, but their features will be different and will have no racial connection (see Kemorian). Instead, Neko is going to be a type of magic procedure one can get to change their appearance for fun. Think of it like a person getting a tattoo, or piercings for them to wear earrings. One merely approaches someone capable (and preferably licensed) to provide neko alterations, and after providing appropriate money, and sometimes materials, the service provider will perform the ritual and give you the desired features. The change would be permanant, and a person would need to have a similar ritual performed on them to return their features to those of a human.
